Edumotion by Michael Köhler

Edumotion is developing an intelligent sensor node module using Bluetooth low energy technology for next-generation medical devices, connected health and telehealth applications.

The support of the Bluetooth Health Device Profile (HDP) stack for “Continua Ready” personal health care devices and of application protocol layers based on XML and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), will allow the integration of pulse oximeters, blood pressure monitors, fitness equipment, and ECG devices into health professions, IT-solutions and hospital clinical information systems.

With mobile devices offering great processing power and today’s low power technology, the integration of intelligent sensing and mobile applications will offer new opportunities for innovative end user healthcare products. Mobile phones and smart phones will be combined with sensor nodes powered over a long time by just a single coin cell, by solar power or even other types of energy harvesting.

Focusing on end user products, a thermopile based device to measure body core temperature on demand and transmit the data to mobile devices for human fertility management is just being developed. Using the same technology and processing core devices for sensing other types of body data (like skin humidity, skin and tissue impedance, ECG/EEG and heart rate etc.), the use of mobile devices for data processing and logging will be further developed in the near future.
