Anticipation is mounting – who will be named winner of the M2M Challenge?

Munich, February 12, 2013 – Registering a broad collection of new solutions, the submission period for novel M2M applications ended with over 200 participants demonstrating the huge innovation potential in the world of machine-to-machine communication. With contestants from 44 countries, this first round of the M2M Challenge innovation competition has already proven to be a great success.

Headed by Robin Duke-Woolley, CEO of Beecham Research and renowned figure in the M2M industry, a panel of experts evaluated the submissions and nominated two finalists for each category followed by an overall winner. “Having solutions that leverage the power and versatility of M2M connectivity is vital to drive market adoption,” states Gerhard Schedler, Head of M2M Centre of Competence, Swisscom. “We were very pleased with the quality and creativity of this years submissions.”

The most outstanding submissions and elected finalists for the categories Energy, Healthcare, Mobility, Security and Consumer Electronics & More are:

SIGFOX, the first and only cellular operator of a network fully dedicated to low-throughput communication for connected objects.

tado° created the first intelligent, smartphone-based heating control system that adjusts automatically to the residents’ behavior

Idezo wireless sensors embedded into socks and applied for optimized post-surgery recovery.

VibroTac by SENSODRIVE is a vibrotactile feedback system for medical technology, industry and entertainment solutions.

Limmex developed the first mobile phone based emergency watch allowing the wearer to call for help at the push of a button.

Magsense by Mobilisis is an intelligent system that provides a guide to available parking spaces using magnetic sensors.

The AnyCar smart entry with access management is an innovative multi-consumer service that facilitates car access, monitoring and usage from a mobile device.

Beverage Metrics has the first complete beverage management solution to meet the industry’s biggest challenges – perpetual inventory management and inventory shrinkage

Mi5 Security’s “iDefigo” Service is a MobileFirst cloud-based surveillance management platform to communicate with cellular cameras that are self powered and that can be positioned anywhere.

The overall winner as well as individual category winners will be announced during the official award ceremony at the Mobile World Congress on February 26th at the Ericsson booth. The competition winner will receive a cash prize of 5,000 dollars and all finalists will be recognized and invited to present their solutions to the audience of international industry and media representatives assembled with support from sponsors and partners.
